Miracles in Golf

“A perfectly straight shot with a big club is a fluke.”

Jack Nicklaus

It’s a great feeling to hit a straight shot. Usually, feelings need a face or a dialect to express themselves. In golf, however, a strong vocal cord will do. A round of golf often is a chess board of multiple miracles and mistakes. This game is all about taking chances. It is about being there on the tee on the fairways and on the green.

“In any situation, the best you can do is the right thing; the next best thing you can do is the wrong thing; the worst thing you can do is nothing.”

Theodore Roosevelt

Although golf is a game of perfection, those who seek perfection in golf or in life mostly end up in the rough. Where disappointment, depression, and desperation await them. The perfectionist starts with high expectations, as an over-ambitious zealot. Soon, these expectations begin to wear out on the terrain of errors. Any overemphasized effort rarely tolerates the unexpected. Mistakes are bound to happen in all human efforts. Attempting again is all that matters.

A metal never becomes an ornament without strikes. Neither mere strikes make it so. Current only runs through a combination of negative and positive. A seed becomes a tree through seasoning. Shining, not twinkling, makes a day.

I once read somewhere — “From the thorn bush comes forth the rose.”

Traffic jams can’t keep us home and empty roads won't make us travel. We can’t fly on our desires and being on a flight can’t make us scholars. Neither a great shot guarantees another nor a bad shot keeps us from good ones. Golf and life are processes that involve love and hate, with success and flops with errors and flaws.

A ping pong ball seeks no hole and a golf ball can’t stop looking for it.

Eyes will catch beauty and hearts will pound for it. The tongue will crave taste and the nose can’t ignore a fragrance.

The first thing golf teaches is humility, the second; empathy, and the third patience."

Kris E Wilson

Life and golf are both a combination of hard and easy, laughter and tears, fails and success, headaches and heartache, love and infidelity, loss and gains.

Surprise is the major attraction in both of these games. Such a cool ingredient makes the sport and its existence worthwhile.

Unpredictability in life leads us to prayers, practice, and patience.

Neither all days are pleasant nor all ghosts are holy. Not all dreams are nightmares. Not all emails are love messages — some are bills. But we should cherish each breath and we should enjoy each moment on the golf course. You only live once and golf is an infinite craving.

Such a beautiful & well articulated blog, drawing similarities in the game of golf with real life, if only one realizes. I have a space in my phone where I save quotes from renown authors, dignitaries & likes. Every line of this blog is worth saving there under your name (May be the whole blog). Thanks for sharing!
